A Mighty Heart (2007)
She deserved an Oscar for the role, but the jury thought otherwise, as she wasn’t even nominated for the same. In this biographical thriller, she played the wife of the slain journalist, Daniel Pearl, who coordinates with the Pakistani police in her futile efforts to save her husband.
Girl Interrupted (1999)
Jolie was quite a sensation with her role as a sociopathic young woman, who spent most of her life in a mental institution. She won The Golden Globe, SAG award and an Oscar as the best supporting actress for her troubled character Lisa. Angelina pulls off this role in an incredible manner considering it involved so many emotions.
In this action-thriller, Jolie plays the title character, Evelyn Salt, a woman who goes on the run after being accused of being a Russian sleeper agent. While the film had originally intended to feature a male protagonist with Tom Cruise set to lead, the script was rewritten for Jolie as a female lead, and it paid off. The movie got good reviews mainly because of Jolie’s performance.
Jolie earned her second Oscar nomination — and first as Best Lead Actress — for Clint Eastwood’s Changeling. With a great performance in a maddening mystery, Changeling is by far Jolie’s best movie according to IMDb.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005)
Mr. and Mrs. Smith is story of two unhappily married assassins who work out their problems through violence struck a major chord with audiences. Jolie plays Jane Smith in the film, a butt-kicking badass who has no idea her husband John is also a professional killer. When the two finally discover each other’s real identity, a cat-and-mouse shoot-’em-up results in a high-octane action spectacle.
Who can forget the sly Fox, the super-sexy assassin Jolie played to perfection in Wanted? The 2008 critical and commercial smash hit marked the return of Jolie as an assassin for the first time. In the film, Fox takes young office worker Wesley (James McAvoy) under her wicked wing and shows him the ropes of professional killing. As Wesley warms up to the idea, he learns to unlock the innate abilities he inherited from his estranged father, a world-famous hitman.
Maleficent 1 & Maleficent 2 (2014 & 2019)
This was her most successfully film till date, where she played the role of the supposedly evil witch of the fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty, with a slight twist – she is not evil, just wronged by the man she loved.
The film earned praises for the visuals, costumes, and musical score, and Jolie was lauded for her captivating performance. In a role seemingly tailor-made for her, Jolie commanded the screen powerfully.
