About Paoli Dam
Paoli Dam is an Indian film actress. She has worked in more than 40 Bengali films and is a well-known Bengali actress. Paoli began her career in 2004 with the Bengali television serial Jibon Niye Khela. Over several years, she worked in Bengali television serials such as Tithir Atithi and Sonar Harin; which ran for six years on ETV Bangla. She spent her childhood in Kolkata, earning a postgraduate degree in chemistry from Rajabazar Science College. Before, she wanted to become a chemical researcher or a pilot. Her debut Bengali film—Teen Yaari Katha, directed by Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha started in 2004, but not released until 2012. Her first film release was Agnipariksha, that was directed by Rabi Kinagi. Between 2006 and 2009 she appeared in five Bengali films, coming with the 2009 Kaalbela directed by Goutam Ghose.
In 2011, she got international recognition for her role in the Bengali film, Chatrak. The film was screened at the Cannes film festival, and also at film festivals in Toronto, U.K. In 2012, Dam got her Bollywood debut in Hate Story. She also appeared in Vikram Bhatt’s Ankur Arora Murder Case, directed by Sohail Tatari. She received the Viewers’ Choice Award for Best Actress award for her performance in Natoker Moto at the Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival, 2016 edition.
According to latest reports, Paoli Dam is all set to make her small screen debut with Sujoy Ghosh’s Mirch Malini. The show will be aired on Star Plus. The actress has begun shooting for the TV series in Kolkata, which will be aired in October as a festival special. Paoli plays the titular role of Malini in Mirch Malini, who is a food-taster. The show is a murder mystery that involves five people.

Paoli was born in Kolkata, West Bengal to a Bengali family which is originally from Faridpur District, Bangladesh. Her father and mother are Amol and Papiya Dam (mother) and she has a brother, Mainak.
Dam went to Loreto School in Bowbazar before passing her Higher Secondary Examination. She was a bright student, winning scholarships. Dam was studying in Vidyasagar College of the University of Calcutta, graduating with a degree in chemistry. She earned a postgraduate degree in chemistry from Rajabazar Science College of the University of Calcutta.
Becoming an actress was not a childhood dream: “I learnt classical dance and was into theatre from an early age. But I never aspired to be an actor”. Before, she wanted to become a chemical researcher or a pilot. During her childhood she also took singing lessons, like other Bengali children.
She began her career in Bengali television serials. In 2003 she appeared in Jibon Niye Khela for Zee Bangla and later in the ETV Bangla serial Tithir Atithi, directed by Jishu Dasgupta; the latter ran for six years. The actress was also seen in Tarpor Chand Uthlo, Sonar Harin and Jaya. Dam has said she has learned a great deal from Bengali television, and it worked on her for a film career.
Dam began working on the Konkani film Baga Beach, directed by Laxmikant Shetgaonkar, in 2012. The actress spoke in an interview, “I like working in different kinds of films. I met Laxmikant Shetgaonkar at the Cannes film festival in 2011 and later heard his script for Baga Beach and liked it. I thought it would be a very unique experience working in a Konkani film. And I thought 15 to 20 days of commitment to a film is not much to give”.
A few months back, the industry buzz was that Paoli and Vikram (actor) were dating each other though both had claimed to be single. The latest news is that Arjun Deb is the new man in Paoli Dam’s life. Arjun is from Guwahati and he is a restaurateur. It is learnt that actress Paoli Dam met Arjun at a common friend’s party after the release of Parapar. Arjun Deb is Bengali but grew up outside Kolkata and did a part of his schooling in San Francisco.
