TV actor Rajat Tokas, who charmed all with his intense role of Akbar in the popular show “Jodha Akbar”, is all set to play yet another powerful character in a new show.
The the actor has teamed up with Ekta Kapoor for the new historic drama on Star Plus in which he will play the lead role Chandragupta Maurya.
The show was tentatively tiled as Chandragupta Maurya, however now the tile has been finalized as Chandra-Nandni.
This will be Rajat’s second historical role with Balaji Telefilms after Jodha Akbar. He’s also played the role of Prithviraj Chauhan in series, Dharti Ka Veer Yodha Prithviraj Chauhan.
Shweta Basu Prasad will be returning home to Balaji Telefilms after almost 15 years as she has reportedly been finalised as the female lead of Chandra Nandini. Shweta started her acting career with Balaji Telefilms as a child artist in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki in which she played the role of Parvati’s daughter, Shruti. Shweta was last seen on “Darr Sabko Lagta Hai.” The talented actress had bagged the National award for best child artiste for the Bollywood film “Makdee” (2002), and also played a key role in “Iqbal” (2005).
In Chandra Nandini, Shweta will essay role of Chandragupta Maurya’s wife Nandini.
According to latest report in TOI, Chandra-Nandini will not be shot in cramped TV sets, but at real locations.
Rajat and Shweta will be shooting in areas of Patna where Magadh and Pataliputra used to exist.
“Ekta Kapoor is bringing her most prestigious project till date. And when she is so closely involved in every aspect of the show’s creative aspect, you can expect nothing better than the best,” said a source close to the show developers.
The source added: “The Mauryan era was prevalent in Pataliputra which is modern day Patna. So, she plans on taking the cast and shooting there to stay true to the authenticity on the show.”
The fresh pair — Rajat and Shweta — will surely be interesting to watch, considering both are talented actors with a huge fan following.
